happy 4th!

celebrating the 4th of July in Brazil!

So after class today, we went to a 4th of July party hosted by our school ABA along with the English Immersion Students & the US Consulate in Recife. It was fun to celebrate our independence day with Brazilians.  We ate real, american food-hotdogs, hamburgers and cupcakes while listening to American music (sweet home alabama, american pie, american woman..you know those songs ;P).  We also sang the National Anthem along with the Brazilian National Anthem.. We played some games and even danced the Cha Cha Slide.  We had the chance to hear from a representative of the US Consulate who really needed to brush up on her Independence Day facts and Josh (our historian) pretty much cringed while she was speaking and telling those brazilians wrong facts.

hey, it's my two countries!

After that party, we went to one of the biggest bookstores in Brazil...Livraria Cultura.

& then we got to see first hand why Recife is called the Venice of Brazil..
We went on a Catamaran tour of the rivers that go through Recife.
It was so beautiful and relaxing. The sights of Recife were beautiful from the river too.
We went just an hour before the sun went down so we got to see the sunset on the river. It was gorgeous & I'm so glad we went!

this is what you'd consider "postcard Recife"

the francisco brennand park of sculptures. this one was created to commemorate the 500th birthday of the discovery of Brazil. It is located just across "marco zero" which is the starting point of Recife where all the roads begin.
