ricardo brennand institute

today I gave my presentation on Ricardo & Francisco Brennand who are cousins.
They are both very famous in Recife because of the contributions they have made through art.
Ricardo worked in the sugarcane industry and became very wealthy through his work.
When he was 12, he received a pocketknife from his father as a gift & then he began collecting different objects.

His collection became so huge..full of art from different eras, statues, swords, weaponry, knives, armor, maps, etc.  So in order to tell the story of brazil, especially the brazil/holland era he created the "Institute Ricardo Brennand" in order to house all of his pieces.

This place is located at the outskirts of the town in the bairro called "varzea". The entrance is amazing, as you can tell from the photos below and whats more amazing is the actual museum! It has divided by three buildings-the castle, the pinacoteca and the gallery.

There are not words to describe how incredible this place was.  I mean, there are BILLIONS of dollars worth of items in this museum.

AND IT'S IN A MEDIEVAL STYLE CASTLE!

It was such a worthwhile experience that we will never forget.
